Richard M. Planey 66 years old of Monessen. Born April 23 1950 died January 28 2017. Leaves behind his wife of 45 years Maria (Manos) Planey, Son Richard (Regina) Planey and granddaughters Megan and Lauren. Daughter Beth Smock. Brother David (Anita) Planey and nephew James. Sister Joann Marinos and son Shane. Sister in law Jeannie (Carl) Menego and their children Sandy Jacobs and great nephew Jack and Tina (Craig) Lee and great nephew and niece Peter and Hannah. Also his beloved pets Winston, Misty and Charlie whom were always by his side. He was proceeded in death by his parents Mike and Betty Planey, his in laws Gus and Matina Manos and his brother in law Anthony (Tony) Marinos. He was a sergeant at Westmoreland County Prison until his retirement in 2012. Rich enjoyed participating in many activities including bowling, fishing and softball and loved watching sports. He was inducted into the Belle Vernon Area High School Hall of Fame in 2013 for his achievements. Rich enjoyed being with his family and friends more than anything. He had all of them by his side at home when heaven gained another angel. The family wishes to thank Dr. Zahalsky and the Mon Valley Oncology Department, Dr. Isaac and the radiation therapy department, and OSPTA hospice for providing compassionate care and comfort during his illness. Friends will be received on Tuesday January 31 from 2 until 7 pm in the Robert A Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd and Marion Ave Monessen Trisagion services will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 am until time of funeral services at 10 am in St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery . In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Sgt Planey at WCP for 9 yrs. as a secretary. He was a good man & will be missed. You have my deepest sympathy, Sharon.
