Andrew Rusnak

Andrew Rusnak 86 of Monessen on Wednesday October 8 2014 at home following a brief illness. Born in Monessen on January 17 1928 he was the youngest child of the late George and Mari Rovnak Rusnak who had emigrated from Czechoslovakia. Besides his parents he was parents he was preceded  in death by his wife Ann in 2011, brothers George, John and Michael, and sisters Margaret Rusnak, Mary Stash and Ann Idzik. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church in Monessen where he served as president of the Parish Council and he was very active with the UROBA fraternal organization. He especially enjoyed the hours he spent helping to make perogies for church fund raisers.  He was a 1946 graduate of Monessen High School and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy including a tour of duty on the USS Wilkes-Barre. He retired as a roller from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co. after 32 years of service. Andy enjoyed growing and canning tomatoes and cooking ethnic foods for his family. He was a, Steelers, Pirates and Penguin’s fan and a horse racing enthusiast. He learned to use a computer so he could play video games. He is survived by three daughters and sons in law, Diane and Pascal Malassigne of Whitefish Bay WI., Debra and Very Rev. William Evansky of Sewickley; and Darla and Fred Tylka of Belle Vernon. Two grandchildren, and their spouses, Thomas and Megan Evansky of Bellevue, and Danielle and Peter Ilchuk, of Sewickley. One sister and brother in law Irene and Vincent Zuza of Monessen , numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Rusnak was looking forward to the birth of a great grandson in November. He was proud of his Slovak heritage and the accomplishments of his daughters and was happiest when his family was gathered at his home. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 7:30 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd and Marion Ave Monessen www.billicksfuneralhome.com Prayers will be held on Monday at 10 am in the funeral home followed by 10:30 am  funeral services in St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church concelebrated by Very Rev. Igor Soroka and Very Rev. William Evansky  interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Parastas Services will be held on Sunday at 7:30 pm in the funeral home.
