Despina J. Apostolakis 87 of Monessen, (affectionally known as Dessie) on Friday May 23 in Magee Women’s Hospital. Born in Charleroi on April 22 1938. She was the daughter of the late Pantelis and Irene Apostolides Apostolakis. She was a 1957 graduate of Monessen High School. Despina was a very active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, serving with the Choir, President of GAPA for 10 years and was instrumental in forming the first St. Spyridon Bulletin. Despina worked for the Valley Independent paper, Monessen Public library, the office manager for Smalis Inc. and also for Michael Mermigas DMD, Dessie with her brother Michael founded D & M Equipment which made a listing on Dunn and Bradstreet. She is survived by her brother Michael and his wife Donna Salotti Apostolakis of Monessen and many cousins. Friends will be received in Thursday May 29 from 11 until 12 noon at St. Spyridon’s Church Funeral services will be held at 12 noon with Fr. Meletios Gianniodis Officiating, interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
