Doreen E. Essey, of Monessen, died June 8 2013, at the age of 77. Born in Monessen on October 11 1935, she was the daughter of the late George and Eva Nyrhinen Stofka. Mrs. Essey is survived by her husband of 58 years George Essey: a son George "Chip" Essey and his wife Marian: daughters Lori Essey and Susan Essey: grandchildren John JJ Essey, Danny Brewer, Tosha Arnold, Ricky Arnold, Shayna Arnols, Christopher Essey, Michael Wyvratt and Andrew Wyvratt: great-grandchildren Kaleigh, Joshua, Derrick, Danielle, India, Keiara, Lamont, Ricky, Kendall, Kylie and Christian: a sister Donna Dudas and her husband Richard: brother in law Samuel Essey and his wife Munda: sisters in law Carmella Essey and Elsa Tragone: and by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her inlaws, Esper and Rashida Essey: brothers in law Norman and Gerald Essey: niece Linda Essey. After graduation from Monessen High School with the Class of 1953, she worked in the Darling Shoppe and then became a full time home maker. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and excelled in the art of Syrian cooking, until her stroke in 2005. Mrs Essey was very active in her church, St. Michaels Antiochian Orthodox Church of Monessen, serving as secretary and treasurer of the Ladies Society, and a member of the Parish Council during the purchase of the present church on Patton Ave. She was active with the MHS Class of 1953 reunion committee and a former member of the Lady Elks of the Monessen Elks Lodge. Friends will be received in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd. and Marion Ave Monessen www.billicksfuneralhome.com on Tuesday June 11, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Trisagion services will be held at 7:30 PM, with Fr. Fred Pfeil officiating. Funeral services will be held in St. Michaels AOC 1201 Patton Ave. Monessen on Wednesday June 12 at 10:30 AM Friends are requested to go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Doreen Essey Memorial Fund, St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Church, c/o 189 Pacific Blvd, Monessen PA. 15062.
