Leonard W. Babinski 91 of Monessen PA. died on Thursday Oct. 19 2017. He was born in Monessen on August 27 1926, the son of the late Wallace and Mary Golit Babinski. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Usher, Teller and a member of the Parish Council. Leonard attended St. Hyacinth's Parochial School and Monessen High School. After school he served in the US Army, and is a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home he worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co. for 42 1/2 years. Retiring gave him time to be an active member of the Monessen Veterans Council, VFW 1190 and the American Legion Post 28 where he served as Commander for 10 years. He devoted his time to decorate veterans graves and for all Veteran Masses. He was a charter member for the Food Pantry and their fundraisers. He belonged to the PNA Lodge 1146, Monessen Knights of Columbus #954. He was also a Fourth degree member of Bishop Phelan assembly, St. Hyacinth's Parish council, Holy Name Society and voted father of the year in 1991, Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Lovetta Presidium, Bishop Taskforce. He served as Chairman for St. Hyacinth's Church Picnic for twenty three years. He loved the chapel and considered it a second home. Leonard enjoyed being a father and grandfather, working in his yard and playing an occasional round of golf when he had a chance. He said he always wore two pairs of socks "in case he got a hole in one". He is survived by his loving wife Irene Kovalsky Babinski who celebrated sixty eight years of marriage on May 22, 2017. He is also survived by two sons Leonard A. (Charlotte), Thomas (Debbi) Babinski and a daughter Carol (Randy) Konsugar. Seven grandchildren Yelena and Leah Babinski, Dara Wolfe, Meghan Rigatti, Jonathan Konsugar, Jenna Babinski and Emily Babinski. Five Great-grandchildren Adrianna and Carina Rigatti, Viktor and Frank Wolfe, Brooks Konsugar. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son Lawrence Babinski (2011) a brother Eugene Babinski , three sisters Helen Bullock, Fancis Vagnoni and Stella Vincent. Friends will be received on Sunday 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Grand Blvd and Marion Ave. Monessen. www.billicksfuneralhome.com A blessing service will be held on Monday beginning at 11:30 am in the funeral home followed by a 12:00 pm Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen interment will follow in St. Hyacinths Cemetery. On Sunday the VFW 1190 and the American Legion Post 28 will conduct services at 7pm, The K of C #954 will conduct services at 7:30 and the Bishop Phelan 4th degree will stand honor guard from 6 until 8 pm all in the funeral home.
