Mary K. Elenitsas, 92, of Monessen passed away Monday April 28 in Logan Place senior living community. Born in Monessen on June 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Rozella Pikounis Kordistos. After graduating from Monessen High School she earned her Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of PA and her Masters degree from California University. She retired from the Monessen School District after 42 years where she taught business education, typing, and worked as a Guidance Counselor. She was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church where she was involved in Sunday School, choir, Ladies Philoptohos, church newsletter and annual Mother's Day Tea. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, devoted to her family. Mary cherished and appreciated education and encouraged others to continue learning. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nicholas, and two brothers, James and Gus Kordistos. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and LeRoy Dastolfo and Dr. Rosalie Elenitsas and John Gilliland, five grandchildren: Nicholas, Maria, Christina, Mary Rose, and Nicole. Four great-grandchildren: Harry, Christa, Miriam and Helen, two sisters Clara Cornias and Christina Horvath  several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Socrates. Friends will be received on Friday, May 2 from 2 until 7pm at the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home, 1415 Marion Ave., Monessen, PA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 8am at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Michael Gavrilos from Dormition of the Theotokos in Oakmont officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests everyone to care, love, and appreciate their family and friends while you have them with you.
