Robert James Kopko

September 8, 1935 — March 4, 2024

Monessen

Robert (Bob) James Kopko, aged 88, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024. Bob, known to many as “Kop”, was born on September 8, 1935, in Monessen, Pennsylvania. After earning his diploma at Monessen High School, Bob pursued a bachelor’s degree at Elon College, where he excelled both academically and athletically. It was during his time at Elon College that Bob not only played football but also met the love of his life, Patricia Ellen Chrismon. Bob cherished his time at Elon College and often delighted in sharing stories of his college days and his close-knit group of friends, known as the "Varney Boys." After graduating from Elon with a degree in accounting, Bob furthered his education at Penn State University, where he obtained a master's degree. Bob embarked on his professional career as an accountant with Haskins & Sells. However, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, where he dedicated himself for many years until his recent retirement. Bob also shared his knowledge with others by working as a professor at both Waynesburg University and California University of PA, and serving as the Dean of the Business School at Cal U.  Aside from his professional accomplishments, Bob’s true joy in life came from his role as a proud grandfather. He adored his three grandchildren and would eagerly share stories about them with anyone who would lend an ear. Bob leaves behind a legacy of academic achievement, professional success, and a deep love for his family.  Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Ellen Kopko. Together, they built a strong and loving partnership that lasted a lifetime. He is also survived by daughter Melissa (Kopko) Zanardelli, Son-In-law Brian Keith Zanardelli, and three grandchildren, Abigail Paige , Haley Ryan, and Nathan Robert Zanardelli. He is also survived by nieces Kim (Eugene) Kopko Grissom, Susan (James) Allen, Jo Marie Chrismon, and nephews Scott (Katie) Rakestraw and Tom (Pam) Rakestraw. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Kopko, brother, Rich Kopko, sister-in-law, Rebecca Matthews Kopko, and nephew Michael Chrismon. Bob’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones. His legacy lives on through the love and memories he shared with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly for his warm and enthusiastic storytelling, his dedication to his family, his unwavering pride in his grandchildren, and the impact he made on those who had the privilege of knowing him. We can only hope that his sweet girl Maggie was there wagging her tail and waiting to welcome him home. Friends will be received Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc., Grand Blvd. & Marion Avenue, Monessen.
