SHIRLEY J. HALKIAS OBITUARY
Shirley J. Halkias, 91, of Monessen, Pa. was called home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2025. A deeply spiritual woman, she loved the Lord, her husband, her family, her friends, and her community with a generous and joyful heart. Wherever she went, she carried light, kindness, and an unmistakable warmth.
Affectionately known as “Mumsy,” Shirley was like a rare diamond—radiant and beautifully multifaceted. She was a devoted wife, mother, sibling, aunt, professional woman and homemaker. Shirley worked for the Pittsburgh National Bank for decades.
She was born on May 22, 1934, in Washington, Pa to the late Eugene and Kathryn Wright. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen G. Halkias; their son, Ron (and his wife Gwyn) Halkias; as well as her siblings, Kay Sheppard, Sue Von Scio Garrett, and Earl Wright.
Mumsy’s faith was the foundation of her life. Together with her beloved husband, Steve, she hosted a monthly Bible study in their home. Their hospitality, devotion, and close partnership created a circle of fellowship and prayer under the guidance of Pastor Chip Norton. After retiring, Shirley and Steve remained inseparable, spending their days in love, service, and quiet companionship.
Mumsy is survived by her loving daughter, Becky Halkias of the District of Columbia, who shares that her mother inspired her to become a better person every single day they had together. Shirley is also survived by her sisters-in-law Billie Wright and Maria Marraccini of North Carolina, and by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who cherished her deeply: Christine Sheppard, Lisa Sheppard, Shawn Arent, Stephen Wright, Michael Wright, George (Donna) Stish, Kathy (Bob )Fowler, Michael (Denise) Stish, Robert (Gina) Stish, Janelle (Doug) North, Norman (Stephanie) Marraccini, Joe (Liz) Panarella, Joann Bellora, Michael Platko, Judy (Jack) Gilsdorf, Kim, Michael, and David Platko, Jim LaCarte, Mathew (Danielle) North, Angella (Jason) Abrams, Madison and Jason Arent, Lisa and Mark Bellora, as well as great-grand nephews and nieces.
