Sophie Telegraphis: has passed away at 90 and a half with “The Memory of Sophia as The Giving Mother For Her Twins Who Knew No Other Greater Love”. Coming from War-Torn-Greece in December of 1947 to Monessen with the aid of her first cousin, Martha Galanoudis of Monessen, Sophia Hatziris was promised to Alfonso Telegraphis of Monessen and were married in February 1948, thereafter both were blessed with twins. Sophie devoted herself to-wards her family and had a profound influence on everyone she graced. From caring for her family to servicing her Greek Orthodox Heritage, she never placed herself above anyone else. Over 35 years of volunteering at the food festivals and philoptochos of the Saint Spyridon Church, she proven to be a real underdog to a community that never fully appreciated her contribution. But, Sophie had her favorites (her koumbara Stella Pezzino whose daughter Mary Ann she baptized and her Greek friend Ourania Galis) to make up what she was missing. And, she always had her twins and still has her twins as they live on with her loving memories. She now only has one younger sister left in Chios, Greece, two nephews there as well and one nephew (Nicholas Atsalis) in Warren, Ohio - whom was brought over to the U.S. as a high school student by both Sophie and Alfonso. She is also survived by her granddaughter (Maria in Maryland), first cousin Stacy Tetteris of Monessen, one sister-in-law, Kula Telegraphis in Monessen and one brother-in-law, Steve Telegraphis in Lords Town, Ohio as well as her daughter-in-law, Sandy Telegraphis of Spring Mills, PA and a few others. May all remember our Sophia - With Deepest Sympathy, Nicholas & Ernest, her twins.
