Susan Hreno Urko, 82 of Carroll Township, Monongahela died on May 20, 2018 at Havencrest Nursing Center after a courageous 3 1/2 year battle of pancreatic cancer. Susan was born on March 18, 1936, the daughter of the late John and Mary Hudi Hreno. After graduating from Monessen High School in 1954, she attended Douglas School of Business and the Earl Wheeler Modeling School where she was a run way model in Pittsburgh. She worked at the Palace of Sweets followed by the Westinghouse Bettis Atomic plant in Large, Pa. In her later years, she worked for Busy Beaver, Dealer Supply and then the Valley Independent as an inserter. Susan was a very strong believer in her faith and belonged to the St. John the Divine Orthodox Church. Being without parents, Susan was always grateful to her brother Mike along with brother John and sister Anne for keeping the family together at such an early age. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard E. Urko, an infant daughter who died at birth, brothers Mike and John Hreno, and sisters, Anne Haschets and Mary Pavlik. Surviving are sons Richard and David of Monongahela, sister Helen (Val Gene) Veschio of Monessen, sister-in-law Dorothea Pavlik and son Mike of Hunker, Pa. , nephews, Val Gene (Lorrie) Veschio, Andrew (Lisa) Pavlik of Monessen, George (Laura) Hreno of Florida, Keith (Dianne) Urko of Monongahela, Paul (Noreen) Urko and Mark (Toni) Urko of South Carolina, niece Cindy (Mike) Pawelec of Monessen. Great nieces and nephews Autumn, Garrett and Blake Pawelec and Kendall Veschio all of Monessen. Friends will be received on Wednesday May 23, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Robert Billick Funeral Home, Grand Blvd and Marion Ave. Monessen PA. www.billicksfuneralhome.com where Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday May 24 followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at St. Johns the Divine Orthodox Church with Father Constantine officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
