On the wings of angels, Vivian Harger Hammitt, was called home by the Lord on Sunday, May 18th, with her devoted husband of 70 years by her side. Vivian was born on January 18th, 1935, the daughter of Alvin “Dutch” and Cecelia (Hurley) Harger of Charleroi. She was a graduate of the Charleroi High School class of 1953. Vivian married the love of her life, Norman, on May 30th, 1955 and raised 9 children with him. After her children were grown, Vivian found enjoyment in traveling, dancing, card playing at the senior centers, visiting local casinos, and her scratch-offs. Her signature comment after losing was, "You know what!!!" Playing cards with her sons-in-law gave her much joy & laughter, especially when she won.
Vivian is survived by Norman L. Hammitt, her loving husband of 70 years, children, Alvin Hammitt of Belle Vernon, Paige (Roy) Bruno of Cape Coral, FL, Jan (Dan) Pieri of Dunlevy, Jill (Darryll Lenhart) Zenobi of Fallowfield, Marcy (John) Karasek of Rillton, PA, Michelle (Brian) Federer of West Newton, Bill (Laura) Hammitt of California, PA, Terri (Mike) Matsick of Belle Vernon, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, brother, Neil (Betty Ann) Harger, sister-in-law, Carol Harger, both of Monessen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Creevey, grandson: Mark Zenobi, granddaughter, Jennifer Oliver, son-in-law: Robert Creevey, 4 sisters, Regina Lape, Eleanor Caruso, Marion Murray, Cecelia Lowe, 3 brothers, Alvin “Buzzy” Harger, Dennis Harger, Glynn Harger.
Special thanks to Vivian’s caregiver Winter Clark who touched all of our lives, you were a Godsent and will be cherished.
Friends will be received Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc., Grand Blvd. & Marion Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 beginning with a blessing service in the funeral home beginning at 9:30 am followed by a Mass at the Epiphany of our Lord Church at 10:00 am, with Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas court 776 and the Epiphany Ladies will have a combined prayer service on Wednesday at 3pm in the funeral home
