George Mazur, 85, of Monessen, passed away on December 29, 2021 at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born on May 14, 1936 to Nicholas and Stella (Polomackanich) Mazur in Monessen. He was a graduate of Monessen High School Class of 1954 and attended Penn State University for Mechanical Engineering. He was a United Sates Army Veteran and during his service he spent most of his time in Ft. Knox, KY., where he played with 113th & 158th post Army Bands. After his service he worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as a carpenter for 10 years then for Combustion Engineering where he had various jobs but retired as a Foundry Inspector after 21 years. During his retirement, George went to work for the Valley Independent where he did various jobs and also had other side jobs as a woodworker. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church Monessen, The Monessen Ukrainian Club, Monessen Eagles, Pricedale Russian Club, and Belle Vernon Legion Post #659. George is survived by a sister, Helen (Joseph) Wujcik of Monessen, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his seven brothers, Andrew, Frank, John, Pete, Paul, Steve, and Michael Mazur; four sisters, Ann Pohlot-Clark, Mary Mastracci, Elsie Dudas, and Evelyn Mazur. Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc., Grand Blvd. & Marion Avenue Monessen, Pennsylvania. Funeral Services will begin at 10 am on Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Constantine Curchin, officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
