Joseph Yakovac 86 formerly of Monessen on Wednesday February 1 2011 in Conemaugh Health System Johnstown. Born in Monessen on May 9 1925 He was the son of the late Blaze and Agnes Skender Yakovac. Joe worked for Monessen Plumbing and Electric Company as well as an self employed electrician and appliance repairman for over forty years until his retirement . He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 194, the Knights of Columbus Council 954 and the American Legion Post 28. Joe served his country in the United States Army during WWII, he also served as past Commander of the China, Burma and India Veterans Association PA. Chapter. Besides his parents he was proceeded in death by his wife Mary V. Nikolich Yakovac, a granddaughter Sara Yakovac, two brothers Frank "Pal" and Anthony "Tony" Yakovac. He is survived by one daughter and son in law Diane and F. Scott Rugh of Johnstown, two sons and daughters in law Lieutenant General Joseph L. and Valerie Yakovac Jr. of Hampton VA, Dr. Robert and Tamera Yakovac of Mt. Lebanon PA. Five grandsons David Rugh and wife Elizabeth of North Bend WA Jonathan Rugh of Issaquah WA Michael Yakovac of Boston MA. Justin Yakovac of Raleigh NC., and Joel and his wife Maggie Caruthers Yakovac of Columbus OH. one sister Frances Yakovac of Monessen. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 until 5 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd. and Marion Ave Monessen www.billicksfuneralhome.com (724) 684-3700. A blessing service will be held on Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Nazimek officiating, interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Sara C. Yakovac Memorial Schol;arship Fund .
